However, there are some foods that are worth the extra money, when compared with the health problems that can be caused by not buying organic. People with young children should really try to buy organic milk. Since most children drink large quantities of milk, hormone filled milk cause them to develop at a much younger age. This is why there have been studies with little girls starting to menstruate as young as 6 years old. This is not normal.
Produce like bananas, mangoes and avocados where the skin is not consumed should not cause much worry. Since you are not eating the skin, there is less concern if the fruit was sprayed with pesticides or not. However, foods like apples and grapes where the skin is consumed, pesticides are often sprayed in large quantities. Pesticides can lead to cancer and many other physical ailments.
Here is a list of the fruits that are sprayed with the most amount of pesticides, therefore, you should try to buy these foods organic, whenever possible. (Source)
The leader of the pack are peaches. Peaches are sprayed more than any other fruit in the agriculture industry and because the skin is so thin, it is absorbed into the fruit easily, even if the skin were to be peeled.
The other produce included on the list are:
- Peaches
- Apples
- Strawberries
- Nectarines
- Spinach
- Blueberries
- Lettuce
- Greens (Kale, Collard Greens, Mustard Greens, Swiss Chard, etc.)
- Grapes
- Celery
- Potatoes
